Nicole Zens, M.S.Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #122319
The nature of any therapeutic relationship is fairly one-sided; I get the pleasure of knowing you, while you know little about me. As such, I want to share some information about me to help balance that dynamic before we get started.
I am highly-trained and skilled Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT # 122319), who has been passionate about helping others for my entire life. I know the pain that life can bring on a deeply personal level, and I am determined to help others find their way through it so that suffering does not need to ensue. I nurture my passion for helping others by healing old wounds, repairing hurting relationships, and transforming life's most difficult battles into opportunities for deep, human connection. As an advanced-trained Emotionally Focused Therapist, I utilize empirically-supported interventions to help my couples, families, and individuals take active steps towards their desired goals. I meet each client in their pain, hopelessness, and discomfort by offering up a safe therapeutic environment, and then gently guiding them to a place of renewed hope and reconnection. Along the way, I remain authentic, empathic, supportive, and warm. I redirect couple and family interactions in a way that facilitates greater understanding, a heightened sense of security, and enhanced emotional closeness. Finally, I hold my clients' pain in a way that lightens their load and, in couples therapy, I assist each partner in doing the same for one another. In using these techniques, I have had the pleasure of witnessing countless powerful and moving transformations take place in the hearts of the many couples, families, and individuals with whom I have worked over the course of my clinical career. As such, I am a firm believer in the efficacy of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the power of vulnerability, and the overwhelming capacity for human resilience. Professionally, I have been working in this field for several years now. Upon realizing my passion for therapy, I earned my Masters of Science degree from Virginia Tech's highly-regarded and rigorous Marriage and Family Therapy program. I have worked closely with several very talented EFT clinicians, and have had the privilege of obtaining hundreds of hours of one-on-one training from the highly regarded and world-renowned EFT trainer, Kathryn Rheem. With this knowledge and experience, I specialize in working with high conflict couples or couples struggling with major injuries to their attachment (i.e., affairs). However, I also have experience in addressing a variety of presenting problems including, but not limited to: relational disconnection, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, infidelity, intimacy concerns, gender and sexuality issues, body image concerns, sexual assault, school-related problems (children/adolescents), and behavioral problems (children/adolescents). |
